Hi, Everyone. An update on the second day of the course.

This is the second day of the course, and I hope you are enjoying what you have read here so far.  Some questions have come up, and here are my answers.

The Bible as Literature, 5th edition, by Gabel and Wheeler, is the text of this course.

You should be reading in the King James Version of the Bible.  Why should be apparent to you by now, but if it isn't, then read on in the course and you'll see why.

By tonight you should have posted a response to my question about which of the four versions of the Ecclesiastes chapter you prefer and why.

You should be reading the first lectures I have posted until now.

If you need a copy of the King James Bible, here is a website where you can read and listen online:

http://www.biblegateway.com/

You can also get a commentary on the books of the Bible there, so it is a good resource.  If you are looking around use kewords such as Bible Commentary or Old Testament Commentaries, something like that.

Here is another source of commentaries:

Why a Bible Commentary?  It gives additional information that might help you understand aspects of what you are reading.

I tried putting the course description and the syllabus online yesterday, but for some reason it didn't take.

Look for it later today.  My fingers are crossed.

More to come.

Joe

  1. Hi Professor Joe,

I've read the first lecture but can't find where you originally posted the Ecclesiastes chapter question. Please advise as to where it is...and where are the discussion questions for that matter? Are they the "Consider this" questions in the lecture notes?

    Thanks,
    Jaime Ursic

And I'm confused because I thought to read all of Genesis... and Ecclesiastes?
